NBCSN to air four classic Miami football games Thursday and Friday
The Nittany Lions dominated Oregon 38-20 in Pasadena to keep their National Championship hopes alive. Miami led Nebraska 17-7 in the third quarter before the Cornhuskers scored the last 17 points of the game to capture their first National Title under Hall of Fame Coach Tom Osborne.

The win propelled Nebraska to three titles in four seasons. Miami and Nebraska meeting with a National Championship on the line was a frequent occurrence that began with the Hurricanes’ first title in the 1984 Orange Bowl. Miami won titles after bowl victories over Nebraska in 1983, 1992 and 2001.
The 1988 Orange Bowl was a matchup of the top two teams in the country. It completed a three-year cycle of Miami, Oklahoma and Penn State playing a round-robin of games for the National Championship. Oklahoma defeated Penn State for the 1985 National Championship in the 1986 Orange Bowl.
The Nittany Lions defeated the Miami football team a year later in the 1987 Fiesta Bowl to win a National Championship and the Hurricanes and Sooners played in the 1988 Orange Bowl. Miami stifled the Oklahoma offense on their way to a 20-14 victory for Johnson’s lone National Championship.
The 1988 Orange Bowl will air at 11:59 ET on Thursday night into Friday morning. Less than 24 hours later, the 1987 Fiesta Bowl will commence at 9:30 PM ET and the 1984 Orange Bowl will follow at 12:30 AM ET Saturday morning. NBCSN did not issue a press release or have anything about the games on social media.
