After delaying his decision in April, four-star quarterback Garrett Nussmeier announced his commitment to LSU via Twitter on Monday. Nussemier had reportedly put off an April commitment because he wanted to visit more schools including the Miami football program.

The Hurricanes will now focus on other QBs for the Class of 2021. Miami needs to sign a QB in 2021 with the loss of Houston graduate transfer D’Eriq King following the 2020 season and Tate Martell and N’Kosi Perry following the 2021 season or sooner as graduate transfers.

Rising redshirt freshman Peyton Matocha and true freshman Tyler Van Dyke are currently projected as the only scholarship QBs on the Miami football roster for the 2022 season. Miami is still recruiting other QBs for 2021. The Hurricanes’ primary target is four-star Aaron McLaughlin from Alpharetta, Georgia.

McLaughlin is one of a pair of QBs high on Miami’s list that is uncommitted. North Carolina State is the prohibitive favorite to sign McLaughlin. A lot can change between now and the early signing day in December.  Nussmeier is the 104th ranked player, the 12th ranked QB, seventh-ranked Pro-style QB and 15th overall in Texas for 2021.

McLaughlin is 196th, 19th, 12th and 20th in Georgia in the Class of 2021. Miller Moss from California and Texas-based QBs Jalen Milroe and Demetrius Davis are the other QBs still considering Miami. Moss is uncommitted with Michigan a 20 percent favorite. Milroe is committed to Texas and Davis to Virginia Tech.

Miami has other options to pursue at QB for the 2021 class, but the remaining uncommitted QBs are three-stars. With King, Martell and Perry having their eligibility expire over the next two seasons, It is imperative for Miami to sign a QB in the 2021 and 2022 recruiting classes.
