The decision for the Miami Hurricanes to add former Florida offensive tackle, Issiah Walker, over other options in the transfer portal or high school Willie Moise made the most sense.

Four-star offensive tackle Issiah Walker who was only at Florida for one semester after enrolling in early January made the most sense for the Miami Hurricanes over other options in the transfer portal or high school senior lineman Willie Moise. Moise was committed to Miami but not accepted in school because of grades.

According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the Miami football program was saving its last scholarship for Moise for an unspecified amount of time. The chance to add a four-star OT was too good for Miami to pass up. Houston graduate transfer OT Jarrid Williams and Alabama quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa were transfer possibilities.

Williams was an All American Athletic Conference performer in 2018 blocking, for now, Miami Hurricanes QB D’Eriq King. After suffering a season-ending injury in 2019, Williams was granted a sixth season of eligibility for 2020. Walker will be using the last scholarship that Miami had available in the 2020 class.

There is a possibility for Miami to add one or two more players through the transfer portal and count those scholarships to the 2021 signing class. Tagovalioa who only entered the portal on Friday already created buzz throughout Miami Hurricanes social media with the potential of him matriculating in Coral Gables.

Jackson reported on Saturday that the largely new Miami offensive coaching staff, including coordinator, and QB coach Rhett Lashlee is very high on incoming freshman QB Tyler VanDyke. Numerous media outlets have reported over the last 24 hours that FIU could be Tagovailoa’s new college destination.

The speculation by many fans and some media outlets of Tagovailoa joining the Miami Hurricanes was solely based on his brother Tua being drafted by the Dolphins and not at all based in fact. Walker gives Miami more stability on the offensive line for the long term than Williams would have for one season or waiting for Moise.

Walker should come in and challenge for a starting position at tackle or guard immediately. The Hurricanes return everyone on the offensive line. After a dismal season on the OL in 2019, everyone will get a chance to prove they should be a starter with the new staff and clean slate provided.
