The Miami football program has three of the top eight transfers in college football for 2020 according to 247 sports. The Hurricanes are the only school with two, let alone three, players in the top 10 transfers.

Quarterback D’Eriq King and defensive end Quincy Roche were three-star players when they signed with Houston and Temple out of high school. King and Roche are big additions to the Miami football program. They were upgraded to four-stars and their ratings improved with the release of the rankings of the top transfers of 2020.

The rankings and re-rating of the top transfers for 2020 were released by 247Sports on Monday. King is the fourth highest-ranked transfer for 2020. Quarterbacks J.T. Daniels who has not chosen a new destination, K.J. Costello of Mississippi State and Jamie Newman of Georgia are the signal-callers ahead of King.

Daniels is transferring from USC, Costello was previously at Stanford and Newman was at Wake Forest. King was a three-star player who was upgraded to four-stars and saw his rating rise to 0.9100 as a transfer from 0.8810 coming out of high school. Newman was the only transfer QB with a bigger rise in his rating.

Newman went from a 0.9200 from a 0.8585. Daniels and Costello despite being higher ranked than King both saw their ratings drop from where they were coming out of high school. Costello could still wind up back at USC. Former Alabama QB Taulia Tagovailoa is a transfer to watch and could consider Miami.

Roche had a more meteoric rise from his high school rating as a graduate transfer with the Miami football program. Roche rose from three to four stars and his rating rose to 0.9400 from 0.8255 in high school. The improvement Roche made at Temple has him on the fringe of being a 2021 first-round NFL draft pick.

Offensive tackle Issiah Walker who is transferring to Miami from Florida just recently announced his intention to return home. Walker spent only the spring semester at Florida as a 2020 signee with the Gators. Walker saw his rating dip slightly from his high school 0.9300 to 0.9311. Walker is the second-highest ranked OT.

There was no specific explanation of why some players went up and others down. The overall explanation by 247 sports in the movement on the players’ rankings was explained at length in a companion article to the transfer rankings. Special teams players were ranked on one big list with punters, kickers and returners.

The special teams performers were not reevaluated. With kickers, punters and return men listed by their high school rating, former Miami kicker Bubba Baxa who is now at Houston is ranked ahead of Jose Borregales who the Hurricanes signed as a transfer from FIU as their kicker for 2020.
