The de-commitment by three-star athlete Chamon Metayer on Wednesday has reportedly been linked to the commitment of four-star tight end Elijah Arroyo. Arroyo was the third TE in a class the Miami football program wanted two in for 2021.

Four-star athlete Chamon Metayer has a few positions shifts during his recruitment with the Miami football program. Many analysts project Metayer’s best position as a defensive end or edge rusher. Metayer reportedly wants to play WR or TE. On Wednesday Metayer announced his de-commitment from Miami.

The commitment from four-star TE Elijah Arroyo gave Miami three TEs in the class of 2021 including Metayer and three-star Khalil Brantley. A report by Andrew Ivins of Inside the U stated that the Miami coaching staff wanted to take only two TEs in the Class of 2021. Metayer might have felt he was stuck behind Arroyo.

Arroyo is the 329th ranked player and 13th ranked TE in the Class of 2020. Metayer is the 349th ranked player and 27th ranked athlete and Brantley is 674th overall and the 28th ranked TE. The de-commitment by Metayer is the sixth for Miami in the Class of 2021. The Hurricanes fell to the 12th best-recruiting class without Metayer.

Other players to de-commit from Miami for 2021 are five-star safety James Williams, four-star wide receiver Romello Brinson, four-star WR Jacolby George, three-star WR Fred Eaford and three-star outside linebacker Cortez McKenzie. Brinson and George are still considering Miami for 2020.

Metayer currently has 18 offers. Eleven of the 18 offers are from Power Five schools. All six FBS schools in Florida have offered Metayer a scholarship. Metayer told Inside the U in October he wants to play TE in college. Metayer sent out a simple Tweet announcing his de-commitment from Miami stating no interviews.

It is tough to know for sure the reasoning behind Metayer’s de-commitment without him stating so publically. Miami now has 13 players committed for 2021. The Hurricanes have the 12th ranked recruiting class in the county for 2021 and are third-ranked in the ACC.
