Recruiting has had to adapt at Miami without getting players on campus. Banda stated that Miami gets more recruits on campus than any school he has been at, which includes Mississippi State and Texas. The communication has had to evolve and Banda stated that it has to be mutual.

The Hurricanes second-year defensive coordinator compared recruiting to dating. He stated that both the Miami football staff and the recruits have to slide into each other’s DMs (direct messages) to initiate contact. If one side is doing all the contacting its shows a lack of mutual interest and is not sustainable.

Many of the players Miami recruits, particularly from South Florida, grow up as Hurricanes fans. Keeping the recruits love for Miami is critical during recruiting. Banda stated some of those recruits lose their love for the Miami football program while being recruited. One that did not was 2020 signee safety Avantae Williams

Banda talked about the positives and negatives of communicating with the current players and recruits during the last two months. Communication has had to evolve quickly where everything is now electronic with current Miami players and future prospects. Players being at home more often has been a benefit according to Banda.

"“The benefit of young players is you get to know them and their families because everyone is at home and they are getting to know us (the Miami) staff)…)The most challenging part is not being around the [current] players)."
