Four-star quarterback Dematrius Davis who the Miami football program was heavily recruiting committed to Auburn over the weekend. Davis is the third highly coveted QB prospect Miami has failed to gain a commitment from in the past week.

Available quarterbacks in the Class of 2021 and younger signal callers through the transfer portal have been dwindling over the past week and month for the Miami football program. The latest Hurricanes target in the 2021 Class to commit elsewhere is four-star QB Dematrius Davis who pledged to Auburn this weekend.

Miami is without a quarterback commit for 2021. The Hurricanes need to gain a commit in this recruiting cycle to add depth for the future. Davis is the 130th player, sixth-ranked dual-threat QB and 20th ranked player in the Class of 2020 per the 247Sports composite. Davis plays at North Shore High School in Houston.

North Shore is the same school to produce Miami incoming freshman linebacker Corey Flagg. Miami added graduate transfer QB, D’Eriq King, from Houston in January. There is no known connection between King and Davis, but if King has the big year expected of him it might get Davis’ attention.

Davis committed to Auburn 11 days after de-committing from Virginia Tech. Davis had close to 30 offers according to 247 Sports including Florida State in addition to Miami and Virginia Tech. Miami has seen the commitments of three other QBs who were potential Canes pledge elsewhere in the last month.

Four-star QBs, Garrett Nussmeier committed to LSU as expected and Aaron McLaughlin who was favored to land with North Carolina State did so. Former Alabama QB Taulia Tagovailoa announced he was transferring to Maryland after one season in Tuscaloosa. Only a handful of top uncommitted QBs remain in 2021.

Miami was very high on four-star QB Miller Moss out of California. Moss named Alabama, LSU, UCLA and USC as his four-finalists recently. Miami offered three-star QB Bubba Chandler last week. Chandler de-committed from Georgia baseball last week and has an offer from Clemson to play football.

dark. Next. Miami needs to find a QB after Tagavailoa commit to Maryland

Chandler would add depth for the Tigers but does not likely have a clear path to starting. The Tigers signed five-star QB D.J. Uiagalelei who is the heir apparent to Trevor Lawrence after the 2020 season. Miami still has options and could turn to the transfer portal to sign a QB for the third year in a row.
