Four-star safety Corey Collier from Palmetto High School in Miami has named the Miami football program as one of his top six. The Hurricanes are a longshot to sign Collier.

The Miami football program faces another tough battle to sign a local player. Four-star safety Corey Collier from Miami Palmetto High School named the Hurricanes with Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia and LSU as his six finalists on Wednesday. The Hurricanes are a longshot to sign Collier.

Collier is the 83rd ranked player, 13th ranked safety and 14th ranked player in the 247Sports composite rankings as updated on Wednesday. Securing a commitment from Collier would be a big boost to the 2021 Miami football recruiting class, but is not an essential position for the Hurricanes in 2021.

Miami signed four safeties in the 2020 Class led by four-star safety and the Hurricanes top signee in the class Avantae Williams. Williams has yet to enroll at Miami. That is partially attributable to the isolation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Miami currently has the 14th ranked recruiting class for 2021.

Collier posted a tweet on Wednesday with a picture of himself and the six logos with a caption that simply said: “top six”. Collier previously had named a top 10 list of programs he was considering. Collier told InsidetheU that the hiring of Hurricanes legend Ed Reed will help change the Miami football program.

"“I haven’t had any contact with Ed Reed, but I do think having him on staff is going to help change things…I think they are going to have an even better season than last year. I think last year was just a little bump in the road that they needed to get over. Just a little hump. They will get through it.”"

Reed was hired earlier this year as the Chief of Staff for the Miami football program. Reed has previously been on the Buffalo Bills staff as an assistant coach in 2016 under former head coach Rex Ryan. Reed is expected to help head coach Manny Diaz with changing the culture of the Hurricanes and in recruiting.

Miami does not currently have any safeties committed for 2021. Three-star cornerback Tim Burns and three-star athlete Malik Curtis who is projected as a return man and CB are committed to the Hurricanes for 2021. Collier told Inside the U he expects to name a top three midseason and will sign in December.

Who is likely to sign Corey Collier?

Collier is a Florida State legacy. His father Cornelius played for the Seminoles from 1999-2002. Christopher Stock of Inside the U logged the lone Crystal Ball for Collier. Stock projects Collier to Florida State, but the crystal ball was posted in 2018.

Next. Five defensive recruits still highly considering Miami. dark

Swamp247, the partner site of Inside the U projects Florida and LSU as the leaders to sign Collier. Collier’s Palmetto teammate, four-star defensive tackle Savion Collins is committed to Miami but many expect him to flip to Florida. Five-star Palmetto DT Leonard Taylor is currently uncommitted and expected to commit to the Gators.
