Rising redshirt freshman defensive end Jahfari Harvey is expected to be fourth in the pass rusher rotation for the Miami Hurricanes in 2020. Harvey could potentially have a breakout season.

The expectations for the Miami Hurricanes pass rush in 2020 have primarily focused on Temple graduate transfer Quincy Roche and the nation’s leading returning pass rusher, rising redshirt sophomore Greg Rousseau. Rising redshirt freshman Jahfari Harvey is expected to be the fourth player in the rotation as an edge rusher.

Harvey will likely slot in behind Roche, Rousseau and rising redshirt junior Jaelan Phillips. With attention centered on Roche, Rousseau and Phillips, Harvey has the potential for a breakout season. Harvey played in the first three games of the 2019 season and the Independence Bowl to maintain a redshirt year.

Players can compete in up to four games and still be considered a redshirt in an NCAA rule inaugurated in 2018. Harvey recorded his sole tackle against Bethune-Cookman in the Miami Hurricanes week three win. Harvey was a four-star signee with Miami in 2019. He was the 210th ranked player nationally and 12th ranked WDE.

Roche has only one season of eligibility remaining with Miami. Rousseau is almost definitely gone to the NFL Draft after the 2020 season and Phillips could also declare for the NFL Draft. Harvey is the future on the defensive line for the Miami Hurricanes. Harvey was mentioned as “Redshirt freshmen we shouldn’t forget about in 2020.”

"Yes. Miami has ANOTHER standout defensive end. The Hurricanes are as deep as anyone nationally at the spot with Gregory Rousseau, Quincy Roche and Jaelan Phillips. But Harvey still might manage to break out, playing in a rotation with those other star edge rushers. The No. 210 overall player in the 2019 class impressed last season, and he’s considered an elite athlete at defensive end in a room with guys most would consider freaks.“He is different than those other guys in a good way,” Miami defensive coordinator Blake Baker said earlier this month. “He is super twitched up. He has a different skill set than those other guys. In my opinion, if you talk about pure speed, he can run better than any of those other guys. That is something that he uses to his strength, his speed-to-power.”Harvey isn’t likely to blow up nationally like Rousseau did a year ago — the depth for Miami is just too great at defensive end. But don’t be shocked if you see him sack a quarterback or three in huge situations this year. Baker has already said he’ll “play a ton.”"

Other Redshirt Freshmen to watch

The honor for Harvey came in an article from 247Sports. Harvey was named to the list with five-star players. Quarterback Spencer Rattler of Oklahoma and running back Trey Sanders of Alabama. led the list. Another familiar name on the list is Auburn RB Mark-Antony Richards, the brother of former Miami WR Ahmmon Richards.

Next. Expect big numbers from Miami pass rush. dark

Harvey could make a similar impact in 2020 that recently departed Miami DE Jonathan Garvin made as a true freshman in 2017. Garvin had nine tackles, three tackles for loss, two sacks, two fumbles recovers and one forced fumble in 2017. Garvin had memorable strip-sacks against Virginia Tech and Notre Dame in 2017.
