The missed PAT took pressure off of Virginia Tech to score on their next drive. At the worst the game would go into overtime for Virginia Tech. The Hokies were able to structure their next drive knowing they needed a FG or TD to win the game with the potential that the game could still go to overtime.

Kicking problems culminate against Georgia Tech

Miami entered the game against Georgia Tech with the ability to close out a five-game homestand with four wins. The Hurricanes were coming off of 17-9 victory over number 20 Virginia. Miami had an extra day off facing the Yellow Jackets following the Friday victory over the Cavaliers. Miami could have improved to 4-3.

The loss to Georgia Tech was inexplicable. The Yellow Jackets needed a defensive and special teams TD to get to overtime. Baxa missed his only FG attempt and Davidson missed twice. Davidson missed a 34-yard attempt in the second quarter, Baxa came in and missed a 27-yard attempt in the third quarter.

Davidson was given another opportunity but had a 25-yard field goal attempt blocked. Borregales has never missed three field goals in one game. The two misses (with one block) inside of 30 yards in the loss to Georgia Tech equal Borregales’ total for his career. The kicking game for Miami should be more reliable in 2020.
