Quincy Roche has already proven he can compete against Power Five teams with exceptional performances in the seven games he had played against them in his career.
Quincy Roche joined the Miami football program in January as a graduate transfer from Temple. Roche played seven games against Power Five teams with the Owls and has shown he can perform at a high level against those teams. Four of those games were against ACC opponents and a fifth was against Notre Dame.
Quincy Roche has played against Boston College, Duke, North Carolina and twice faced former ACC member Maryland in addition to Notre Dame. The numbers Roche put up in those games showed that he is ready to compete on a weekly basis against Power Five opponents. Roche will get another chance versus Duke and UNC in 2020.
In the seven games against Power Five opponents, Roche has 34 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and five sacks. That averages out to 63 tackles, 12 TFLs and nine sacks over a full season. Those numbers would have been bigger, but Roche missed half of the game against Maryland in 2018.
Roche’s biggest performances were against Boston College and Duke in 2018. Against the Eagles, Roche had five tackles. Roche recorded eight tackles, two TFLs and two sacks in a 56-27 loss to the Blue Devils in the 2018 Independence Bowl. Roche had four tackles,1.5 TFLs and a sack as a freshman versus ND in 2017.

The performance against the Fighting Irish came against was against an offensive line with two top 10 picks in the 2018 NFL Draft. Miami totaled eight TFLs and five sacks against Notre Dame later that same season. Big numbers are expected in the pass rush from Roche, Greg Rousseau and the Miami defensive line in 2020.
Rousseau is the nation’s leader among returning players nationally with 15.5 sacks in 2019. Roche has gotten more of the praise this offseason for being the top returning edge rusher in the country. It close to unprecedented to have two separate players with those accolades. Miami also has Jaelan Phillips in the rotation.
Phillips was the top recruit in the country in 2017. After two injury-plagued seasons at UCLA, he transferred to Miami in January 2019 and sat out last season. Redshirt freshman Jahfari Harvey will also be in the rotation at DE. Led by Roche and Rousseau, Miami should have a chance to break the team sack record of 52.
