Four-star defensive tackle Albert Regis de-committed from Minnesota on Sunday. With only four-star DT Savion Collins committed to the Miami football program for 2021, Regis should be a player the Hurricanes target.

The Miami football program currently only has four-star defensive tackle Savion Collins committed to the 2021 recruiting class. Collins is projected by many recruiting analysts to flip to Florida. With that in mind, the Hurricanes should be recruiting four-star DT Albert Regis who recommitted from Minnesota on Monday.

Regis is the 475th ranked player overall, the 32nd ranked DT and 65th ranked player in Texas in the 2021 recruiting class. Regis plays at LaPorte High School just Southeast of Houston. Miami has been successful recruiting Houston in recent years. Quarterbacks D’Eriq King and Peyton Matocha and LB Corey Flagg are from Houston.

Collins is higher ranked and rated than Regis. The Miami Palmetto product plays with other Miami targets DT Leonard Taylor, wide receiver Breshard Smith and safety Corey Collier. Collins is the 242nd ranked player, 15th ranked DT and 36th ranked player in Florida in 2021. Collins received a 0.9095 rating.

Regis graded out at 0.8744. The Miami football program needs to add depth on the interior of the defensive line. Rising senior Jon Ford is off to the NFL after the 2021 season and rising junior Nesta Silvera has the option of following him. Miami is high on the development of the DTs behind Ford and Silvera.

Rising redshirt sophomore Jordan Miller and rising redshirt freshmen Jalal Holley and Jared Harrison-Hunte are ready to provide depth in 2020 and become part of the rotation. One or two of the aforementioned DTs will move into a starting role in 2021. Incoming freshman Elijah Roberts is also expected to move to DT.

Next. Taylor would be second highest rated DT in Miami history. dark

Regis had been committed to Minnesota for less than a month before de-committing. Regis stated he would be the “Swiss Army tool”  of the Minnesota defense for years to come. There is a list of of13 schools that Regis is interested in. Other than Minnesota; Baylor, Illinois, Tennessee, Texas Tech and Virginia Tech are in the running.
