In an interview with Andrew Ivins of Inside the U, three-star linebacker Deshawn Troutman stated he could be committing to the Miami football program soon.

The Miami football program currently has three-star outside linebackers Tyler Johnson and Ja’Corey Hammett committed for 2021. The Hurricanes would reportedly like to add one or two more LBs in the class. A commitment from three-star inside LB Deshawn Troutman could be coming soon.

Troutman told Andrew Ivins of Inside the U that the Miami football program is his preferred college destination and he could be committing soon. Troutman currently resides with his family in Orlando but grew up in South Florida before moving in ninth grade. Troutman is the 932nd ranked player, 38th ILB and 126th in Florida for 2021.

Miami will likely only lose rising redshirt senior Zach McCloud entering 2021. Rising sophomore Sam Brooks and rising redshirt freshman Avery Huff are expected to compete to start next to McCloud in 2020. Redshirt juniors Bradley Jennings Jr. and Waymon Steed and redshirt sophomore Patrick Joyner provide depth.

Incoming freshman Tirek Austin-Cave and Corey Flagg both play ILB and project to be the successor to McCloud. Brooks could possibly move inside based on how his 2020 season progresses. Miami should be in good shape for the future at LB baring injuries and transfers.

"“I haven’t made a decision yet, but I’m leaning towards Miami more than any other school. I think I might be committing soon. I have been doing Zoom meetings, FaceTimes regularly and just texting. That’s just my hometown (Miami). I have been a fan of them since I was born.It has always been like a dream of mine to play for them so it’s just kind of provides motivation for me. I played at South Kendall and then at Richmond Heights. I moved up to Orlando when I was in ninth grade. [Coach Baker] actually just texted me on Memorial Day seeing how I was doing and all that.”"

Other than Miami, Troutman has offers from numerous Group of Five schools plus Florida State, Indiana, Kansas, Louisville, Minnesota, and West Virginia. Troutman has been a starter since his sophomore season in 2018. Troutman finished the 2019 season with 89 tackles. Troutman’s brother Trenell is a safety and LB for Louisville.

Miami has offers out to 22 outside LBs and four ILBs for 2021. Fifteen of those 27 players remain uncommitted. Three-star OLB Sebastian Sagar of Brooklyn, NY is the highest of LBs currently on the board for the Miami football program. Sagar is also strongly considering Boston College, Syracuse and West Virginia.
