D’Eriq King is expected to be one of six elite quarterbacks in 2020 according to ESPN. King provides the Miami Hurricanes with their most stable QB since Brad Kaaya left after the 2016 season.

D’Eriq King left the Houston Cougars after the 2019 season to transfer to the Miami Hurricanes football program. King brings stability and a cache to Miami at quarterback that has not been seen since the Hurricanes all-time leading passer Brad Kaaya left after the 2016 season. King brings a new dynamic at QB for Miami.

King is the first true dual-threat QB in Miami Hurricanes history. King enters the 2020 season with a TD pass in 17 straight games and a TD passing and rushing in 15 straight games. In his last full season in 2018, King ran for 674 yards and 14 TDs. It is difficult to determine how to stop King. King is one of six elite QBs named by ESPN.

The other five QBs on the list by ESPN as Elite Tier Two players are Tanner Morgan, Minnesota, Sam Howell, North Carolina, Brock Purdy, Iowa State, Sam Ehlinger, Texas and Kedon Slovis, USC. Howell and King will matchup October 24 at Hard Rock Stadium. The Tier 1: The can’t-miss superstars are in their own category.

Trevor Lawrence of Clemson and Justin Fields of Ohio State are the prohibitive favorites in the 2020 Heisman Trophy race. Lawrence is the expected number one overall draft pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Miami and Clemson could meet in the 2020 ACC Championship Game if both win their respective divisions.

While some national experts question how King will perform in Miami, the combination of King under new offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee should greatly improve the Hurricanes offense. There is talent at the skill positions for King to work with. The question will be how much protection King gets from the offensive line.

David Hale of ESPN mentioned that Howell was the only QB in the country last season with multiple passing TDs in every game. King threw for multiple passing TDs in12 of his last 15 games. That includes 10 times during the 2018 season when King accounted for 50 TDs. Hale is cautious about King’s outlook at Miami.

"“It’s hard to know what to make of King in his new home in Miami, but he’ll start his career there having thrown a TD in 17 consecutive games.”"

King has a chance to be the latest great QB to seek success after transferring. Fields transferred to Ohio State in 2019 after playing his freshman season at Georgia in 2018. The last three Heisman Trophy Winners, Joe Burrow at LSU and Kyler Murray and Baker Mayfield at Oklahoma were transfers.

dark. Next. King and Lashlee can bring excitement to Miami offense

A big season from King is expected after the numbers he put up for Houston in 2018 and the first four games of 2019. King should have a record-breaking season for Miami in 2020. Multiple rushing records by a Miami QB should definitely be broken. King will have a chance at numerous Miami passing and total offense records as well.
