Tight end Jeremy Shockey epitomized the Miami football program in the early 2000s. Shockey was brash, bold and made big plays on the field. Shockey is an internal part of the legend at tight end U.

Jeremy Shockey was an integral part of the success of the Miami football program in 2000-2001. In his two seasons playing for the Hurricanes, Shockey caught 61 passes for 816 yards and 10 touchdowns. Shockey’s legend began with three receptions for 24 yards and the game-winning TD against Florida State in 2000.

Shockey finished his first season with the Hurricanes with 21 receptions for 296 yards and three TDs. A four reception for 83-yard performance against Syracuse was the high point of Shockey’s first season with Miami. That led to an outstanding junior season with 40 receptions for 519 yards and seven TDs.

Shockey began the 2001 season with seven receptions for 84 yards and a TD in a 33-7 blowout of Penn State in the opener. The Miami offense with Shockey at TE, Andre Johnson at wide receiver and the running back trio of Clinton Portis, Frank Gore and Willis McGahee finished third in the nation averaging 42.7 points per game.

Ken Dorsey led the 2001 Miami offense with Shockey and Johnson as his leading receivers. Shockey capped off his Miami football career with five receptions for 85 yards and a TD in the Hurricanes 37-14 win over Nebraska in the 2002 Rose Bowl to earn Miami the 2001 National Championship.

Shockey led Miami with 40 receptions on the greatest team in the history of college football. Following the season, Shockey decided to forego his final year of eligibility with the Miami football program and enter the NFL Draft. Shockey was the 14th overall pick in the 2002 NFL Draft by the New York Giants.

In his rookie season with the Giants, Shockey had 74 receptions for 894 yards and two TDs. Named to the NFL All-Rookie team, Shockey lost out on the Rookie of the Year Award to Portis who played for the Denver Broncos as a rookie. Shockey earned his only All-Pro recognition as a rookie.

For his career, Shockey earned four Pro Bowls appearances and finished with 547 receptions for 6,147 yards and 37 TDs. After playing his first six seasons in New York and winning a Super Bowl, Shockey spent the next three with the New Orleans Saints winning another ring and finished his career with the Carolina Panthers.
