Three-star defensive end Thomas Davis de-committed from Mississippi State on Monday then received two crystal balls for the Miami football program later in the day. Andrew Ivins of Inside the U and Paul Jones from Rebels site GenesPage.Com both gave crystal balls for Davis to Miami following his de-commitment from MSU.
Davis is the 836th ranked player overall, the 50th ranked weakside defensive end and 72nd ranked player in Georgia in the Class of 2021. Davis is 6’2.5, 223 pounds and plays for Lowndes High School in Valdosta, GA. Davis told Gaby Urrutia of Inside the U the Miami staff projects him as a versatile pass rusher.
Miami does not have a commitment from a defensive end or an outside linebacker in the 2021 class. The Hurricanes signed three defensive ends in the Class of 2020. Four stars, weakside DE Chantz Williams and strong side DE Elijah Roberts who could move to defensive tackle and three-star SDE Quentin Willams.
Davis told Urrutia that the Miami coaching staff projects him as either standup or hand in the ground pass rusher. Miami was named a finalist on Tuesday for DE/OLB hybrid Naquan Brown who projects similarly to Davis. Davis discussed how the Miami coaching staff would project to use him in college.
"“He was just saying that he likes my film and they need a pass rusher like me…They were saying my techniques and body size fits them very well and they feel very confident in me, I could make a good impact on Miami. I can do it all, really, so it really doesn’t matter.I could stand up and get on the ground with those big boys, it doesn’t matter.”"
Davis originally committed to Mississippi State in April. Other than Miami and Mississippi State, Indiana and Tennessee are the other Power Five programs who have offered Davis a scholarship. As a junior Davis finished with 47 tackles and 11.5 sacks. The Big Spur.Com reported Davis is expected to visit South Carolina.
Both Ivins and Jones placed an eight out of 10 confidence ranking on Davis. There has been no report if or when Davis plans on visiting Coral Gables. Davis received a grade of 0.8548. The average commit for Miami in 2021 is 0.8783. Guard Leonard Seymore is Miami’s highest-rated commit for 2021 at 0.9311.
