Kevin Patrick was a menace as a defensive end for the 1991 National Champion Miami football program. Patrick left Miami third all-time in sacks.

Kevin Patrick is fifth in the history of the Miami football program with 23 career sacks. Patrick’s best season came as a senior in 1993. Patrick led Miami with 11 tackles for loss and sacks. Patrick was named the Big East Defensive Player of the Year and multiple All-American honors were awarded after the 1993 season.

Patrick left Miami with 174 career tackles and 23 sacks. Initially teaming with Rusty Medearis as sophomores at DE they were part of a dominating 1991 Miami National Championship defense that led the country in scoring defense allowing 8.3 points per game. A year later Patrick tied for the Miami team lead with eight sacks.

In 1992, Miami finished 11-1, losing the national championship game in the Sugar Bowl to Alabama. With Patrick coming off the edge, the Miami defense was fifth in scoring defense in 1992 allowing 13.4 PPG. Patrick and Medearis and were both inducted into the University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame in 2015.

Following his playing career, Patrick has been a college assistant coach from 1996-98 and again from 2008-present. Patrick has had two stints as a defensive line coach at South Florida, from 1996-98 and from 2008-13. Patrick has also coached at North Texas, Texas Tech, North Carolina State and FAU.

Patrick was hired as the Owls outside linebackers coach earlier this season by new FAU head coach Willie Taggart. This will be Patrick’s first coaching position not involving the defensive line. Patrick coached defensive ends and tackles specifically and the line overall at USF, and the DL at his other stops.

Patrick is a big part of the history of great defensive linemen to play for Miami during their first championship era from 1983-91. Patrick played in four bowl games for the Hurricanes, two of those games were for national championships, which Miami won one. Patrick is the best player in Miami history to wear number 86.
