Leonard Hankerson is one of the most productive receivers in the history of the Miami football program. Hankerson set the Hurricanes single-season records with 72 receptions and 1,156 receiving yards in 2010. Allen Hurns broke Hankerson’s record three seasons later with 1,162 receiving yards.

Hankerson ranks sixth in Miami football history with 134 receptions and 2,160 receiving yards and third all-time with 22 touchdowns behind Pro Football Hall of Famer Michael Irvin who had 26 and Hurricanes legend Lamar Thomas who finished his Miami career with 23. Hankerson was a big contributor in 2009 and 2010.

Hankerson had a breakout junior season in 2009 with 45 receptions for 801 yards and six TDs. As a senior in 2010, Hankerson had the best season by a WR in Miami football history. With 72 receptions for 1,156 and 13 receiving TDs, he set the Miami all-time record in all three categories at the time.

Hurns has since broken the receiving yardage record for a season. Hankerson still holds the Miami record for receptions and receiving TDs in a season Hankerson will likely be indicated someday into the University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame. He is one of the greatest receivers in Miami history and the best Hurricane to wear 85.

Hankerson was the 85th pick overall in the third round of the 2011 NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins. In five seasons in the NFL, the first four with Washington and the last one primarily with the Atlanta Falcons, Hankerson had 107 receptions for 1,408 yards and nine TDs. Hankerson’s career ended after a hamstring injury.
