The commitment from four-star wide receiver Romello Brinson improved the 2021 Miami football recruiting class from 14th to ninth in the rankings.

The 2021 Miami football recruiting class moved up from 14th to ninth in the recruiting rankings with the commitment of four-star wide receiver Romello Brinson. Brinson is the highest-ranked commit in Miami’s class. The Miami Northwestern WR is the 132 ranked player, 25th WR and 21st ranked player in Florida.

Brinson joins Fort Lauderdale Plantation WR Jacolby George who commited to Miami last week as the two wideouts currently commited to Miami for 2021. George is ranked 178th, 34th and 26th. The new up-tempo, spread system being implemented by new offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee will make great use of the WRs.

Miami signed four WRs in the 2020 signing class. Four-Star Michael Redding III and three-star Xavier Restrepo, who is expected to contribute in the slot this fall and Keyshawn Smith and Dazalin Worsham. The Hurricanes would like to add one or two more WRs for 2021. Malik Nabors and Breshard Smith top the list.

In moving from 14th to ninth with the addition of Brinson Miami passed Minnesota, Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Iowa and LSU. Miami has a long way to go to catch Oregon to move up to eighth. Finishing in the top 10 would be an impressive finish for Manny Diaz and his staff. A lot will be determined by the 2020 season.

The Hurricanes could receive commits from higher-ranked recruits if the season gets off to a good start. Depending on how the Hurricanes season develops Miami could sign some of the higher-ranked four and five-star players they are recruiting. Signing the 13th ranked class in 2020 after a 6-7 season was a positive sign.

Next. Diaz says Miami making great recruiting progress in Dade and Broward. dark

Miami should be deep at WR in 2021. Mike Harley is the Hurricanes only senior WR in 2020. Juniors Mark Pope and Dee Wiggins will be eligible for the NFL Draft. Baring a breakout 2020 season Pope and Wiggins are likely to return in 2021. That would give Miami eight to 12 receivers to compete to be in the 2021 rotation.
