Anthony Chickillo signed with the Miami football program as a Hurricanes legacy. Chickillo’s grandfather Nick was an All-American who played on the offensive and defensive lines at Miami from 1949-52. Chickillo’s father Tony also played at Miami in the early 1980s before becoming a fifth-round pick by Tampa Bay in 1983.
Anthony Chickillo was the 22nd ranked player, second-ranked strongside defensive end and eighth-ranked player in Florida in 2011. Playing on the Miami defensive line from 2011-14, Anthony Chickillo recorded 171 tackles, 24 sacks, 14.5 tackles for loss, six pass breakups and four fumble recoveries.
Chickillo had a complicated relationship with former Miami football head coach Al Golden. Chickillo was one of three five-star signees under Golden. Chickilllo was switched from his natural position of defensive end to defensive tackle in the 3-4 defense played by polarizing former Miami defensive coordinator Mark D’Onofrio.
Chickillo discussed his Miami football career in a pair of scathing interviews about the Golden regime with the Hurricanes. Had he been used correctly at Miami, Chickillo would likely have been drafted higher than the sixth round by Pittsburgh in the 2015 NFL Draft.
After five seasons with the Steelers, Chickillo signed with the New Orleans Saints in the offseason. Chickillo is expected to play linebacker in New Orleans.
