Defensive tackle Jared Harrison-Hunte has a bright future for the Miami football team. After redshirting as a true freshman in 2019, Harrison-Hunte will be one of three primary backups to starting DTs senior Jon Ford and junior Nesta Silvera in 2020.
Redshirt freshman Jalar Holley and redshirt sophomore Jordan Miller are expected to complete the five-man rotation on the interior of the Hurricanes defensive line. Harrison-Hunte made his Miami debut in 2019 playing against Bethune-Cookman in the home opener week three.
A consensus three-star signee in the Class of 2019, Harrison-Hunte was the 519th ranked player and fourth-ranked DT. Harrison-Hunte received 25 scholarship offers out of high school. All but six of those were from Power Five schools.
The scouting report on Harrison-Hunte emphasized his lower body strength, explosiveness and athleticism. The scouting report from 247Sports projects that Harrison-Hunte needs to work on his lateral movement. Creating more moves at the point of attack will also benefit Harrison-Hunte.
Long term Harrison-Hunte is projected as a two to three-year starter in college and being taken in the middle rounds of the NFL Draft.
Larry Hodges played in the maximum four games last season in order to maintain his redshirt. Hodges debuted against North Carolina and got on the stat sheet with two receptions for three yards and two touchdowns against Bethune-Cookman.
Hodges will likely compete with true freshman Dominic Mammarelli if he does not redshirt to be the third-team TE for the Hurricanes in 2020. Juniors Brevin Jordan and Will Mallory will receive the vast majority of the snaps at TE for Miami in 2020.
The Hurricanes lost redshirt senior Michael Irvin II to Florida Atlantic and redshirt junior Brian Polendey to Colorado State in the offseason. Hodges was the 587th ranked player, 26th ranked TE and 73rd ranked signee in Florida in the Class of 2019.
Hodges also received scholarship offers from Texas, LSU, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Cincinnati, Kentucky, Louisville, Virginia Tech, Indiana and South Florida.
