Four-star A.J. Duffy, the fourth-ranked pro-style quarterback in the Class of 2022 has the Miami football program high on the list of the schools he is considering.

According to his recruiting profile for A.J. Duffy on 247Sports.Com, the Miami football program is one of three schools that are at the top of the list that the four-star, fourth-ranked pro-style quarterback in the Class of 2022 is considering. In an extensive interview with The Athletic, Duffy mentioned his interest in Miami.

A.J. Duffy is the 157th ranked player overall, the fourth-ranked pro-style QB and 13th ranked player in California in the Class of 2022 by 247Sports.Com. The composite rankings of multiple recruiting sites by 247 have not been released yet. Duffy is currently strongly considering Oregon and USC in addition to Miami.

The Hurricanes brand continues to be strong among young players even nearly 20 years after their last national championship. Duffy told The Athletic he has always thought Miami “was cool.”  Duffy is one of 10 QBs Miami has offered for 2022. Six pro-style QBs have been offered by the Hurricanes and four dual-threat QBs.

Duffy could become the latest Miami QB from California. Brad Kaaya, Ken Dorsey, Kyle Wright and Heisman Trophy winner Gino Torretta were all Hurricanes signal-callers from the Golden State. Miami is still heavily recruiting 2021 USC commit Jake Garcia who is also from California.

Duffy lives in Moreno Valley about 50 miles east of Garcia who lives in La Habra. Schools that Duffy has been in contact with through the quarantine according to The Athletic are Florida State, Miami, Oregon, Oregon State, Penn State and USC. Oregon State. Oregon State seems like a longshot to sign Duffy.

There are two crystal balls currently projecting Duffy to eventually commit to Oregon. One of those is from 247 Sports Director of Football Recruiting Steve Wiltfong. Without a QB commited for 2021, the 2022 cycle could become critical for the Miami football program. Miami has two QBs on the roster with 2022 eligibility.

The Hurricanes have four QBs currently on the roster who will have eligibility remaining in 2021. Tate Martell and N’Kosi Perry will be redshirt seniors in 2021. Either or both could elect to move on to another program with guaranteed playing time as graduate transfers following the 2020 season.

Next. Romello Brinson and the movement to sign Jake Garcia. dark

Peyton Matocha will be a redshirt sophomore in 2021 and Tyler VanDyke is projected to redshirt in 2020 and would be a redshirt freshman. Adding another QB for 2022 will be critical for depth for Miami. The Hurricanes could potentially seek a transfer QB in 2021 or 2022 like they did with D’Eriq King for 2020 and Martell in 2019.
