Garcia is the seventh-ranked Pro-Style QB in the Class of 2021 and the fourth-ranked Pro-Style QB according to the 247 Sports composite of multiple recruiting sites. Miller Moss the other high-level QB commit to USC fell Moss fell 42 spots to 104th overall nationally. Moss is the sixth-ranked Pro-Style QB by 247 and the composite.
The 2021 Miami football recruiting class is currently 10th overall in the national rankings. USC is fifth. Miami has not signed a QB in the 2021 class. The Hurricanes signed four-star QB Tyler Van Dyke in the 2020 class. VanDyke was the 220th ranked player and the seventh-ranked Pro-Style QB.
A grassroots movement has been started by Miami fans that have been picked up by current players and alums to sign Garcia. The movement was started when Moss commited to the Trojans. A #JakeGarciatotheU and #GarciatotheU hashtag gained momentum over the weekend when Romello Brinson commited to Miami.
Other 2021 Miami commits, current Hurricanes players and prominent alums like Heisman Trophy-winning QB Gino Toretta and Miami all-time leading passer Brad Kaaya picked up on the bandwagon hoping to flip Garcia to Miami. The Hurricanes seemed to be in the lead to receive a commitment from Garcia last fall.
When 2020 signee Bryce Young flipped from USC to Alabama, Garcia shortly commited to USC thereafter. Moss who was also considering Alabama, commited to the Trojans recently. Miami currently has four QBs on the roster who will have eligibility remaining in 2021.
Tate Martell and N’Kosi Perry will be redshirt seniors, Peyton Matocha will be a redshirt sophomore and VanDyke will likely be a redshirt freshman with the expectation he will sit out this season with Houston graduate transfer D’Eriq King greatly expected to be the starting QB for the Miami football team in 2020.
