Three-star outside linebacker Thomas Davis who would be projected as a defensive end for the Miami football team was one of the standout performers at the Jacksonville Showcase camp for mostly underclass recruits.

Three-star linebacker Thomas Davis is expected to commit to the Miami football program on August 24. Davis who projects as a defensive end with the Hurricanes was one of the“Top Performers: Jacksonville Elite Underclassmen Showcase.” as stated by Andrew Ivins of 247Sports.Com.

Miami needs to add an edge rusher in the 2021 recruiting class. None of the current Miami commits is a defensive end. The Hurricanes have commitments from defensive tackles Savion Collins and Alan Haye and from three-star linebackers Ja’Corey Hammett, Tyler Johnson and Deshawn Troutman.

The Miami football staff is higher on the potential Davis has than his ranking as the 855th player, 50th weakside DE and 76th ranked player in Georgia. Davis has the speed and a quickness Miami is looking for from their edge rushers and at 6’2.5 decent length. Davis will have to bulk up his 223-pound frame.

Previously commited to Mississippi State, Davis was immediately projected to Miami following his commitment from the Bulldogs. All three of the crystal balls for Davis, with two from Inside the U writers Ivins and David Lake, project the Valdosta Lowndes star to sign with the Hurricanes later this summer.

"DE Thomas Davis: Davis was another Class of 2021 recruit working out. The Valdosta (Ga.) Lowndes edge rusher, who ran an unofficial 4.81 in the 40-yard is built like a linebacker, but spent the morning with the defensive linemen. His best attribute is the ability to plant his feet and drive down field.Miami is the current 247Sports Crystal Ball leader for Davis after he backed off a commitment to Mississippi State a few weeks ago."

Davis told Lake over the weekend that he is also considering Indiana and South Carolina. The Gamecocks project Davis as an OLB. Indiana is more vague, telling Davis they like his speed. Davis told Lake that head coach Manny Diaz likes his quickness, ability to get off the ball fast, how he rushers the passer and physicality.

Davis potentially seems like a project, but Miami needs to add edge rushers for depth in 2021. The Hurricanes will lose Temple graduate transfer, DE Quincy Roche, redshirt sophomore Greg Rousseau will almost certainly declare for the NFL Draft and redshirt junior Jaelan Phillips could also follow.
