Miami Hurricanes quarterback prospects Jake Garcia and Jalen Milroe were not invited to the Elite 11 camp later this month in Murfreesboro, Tennessee but should have been.

Although quarterback prospects Jake Garcia and Jalen Milroe are currently commited to other schools, the 2021 four-star prospects are still receiving a lot of attention from the Miami Hurricanes. Neither Garcia nor Milroe was invited to the Elite 11 QB camp in Murfreesboro, Tennessee later this month.

Garcia who is commited to USC has created a lot of buzz among the Miami Hurricanes fan base and football alums about flipping from the Trojans. Prominent Miami alums like Brad Kaaya and Gino Torretta and 2021 commits like four-star wide receiver Romello Brinson have elevated a campaign for Garcia to attend Miami.

Garcia and Milroe were both named by 247Sports as two of “The 5 QBs we wish we could see at the Elite 11 Finals.” Milroe is currently commited to Texas. Garcia seems to be the first choice among the Miami Hurricanes staff, but Milroe is not like far behind. Milroe has a relationship with Miami QB D’Eriq King.

The 2021 Miami recruiting class ranks 10th nationally despite not having a commit at quarterback. With less than six months remaining until National Signing Day, a lot can happen in regards to Miami signing at QB. Garcia and Milroe remain the prime recruits, but a wildcard could emerge. Summaries of the five QBs were done by 247.

What analysts say about Garcia and Milroe

"Jake Garcia, La Habra (Calif.) High, USC commitAny time you have two quarterbacks committed in the same class you want to see them as much as possible in the same setting. Trojans commit Miller Moss will be in Nashville. Unfortunately, Garcia won’t. We actually gave Round 1 to Moss at the Elite 11 Regional in Los Angeles naming him one of the Alpha Dogs at the event. But these are two guys we have ranked very close to each other, No. 105 and No. 110 respectively, and having Garcia in the Volunteer State throwing alongside Moss again would’ve been great. As a junior Garcia made good on over 70 percent of his passes for 2,301 yards and 25 touchdowns to just eight interceptions."

Before committing to USC in September 2019, many thought Miami was the leader to land the nation’s fourth-ranked Pro-Style QB. The flipping of five-star 2020 QB Bryce Young created a domino effect for USC. Once Young decided to matriculate in Tuscaloosa, Garcia chose to commit to the Trojans.

In addition to being familiar with King, Milroe should be somewhat familiar with new Miami offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee. Lashlee coached at SMU in the last two seasons. The Mustangs play in the American Athletic Conference with Houston.

"Jalen Milroe, Katy (Texas) Tompkins, Texas commitAnother very athletic quarterback with verified 4.64 laser-timed speed from the Elite 11 circuit prior to his junior season, the Longhorns commit had a strong junior season throwing for 2,689 yards and 29 touchdowns with another 378 yards rushing and eight touchdowns. In that campaign Milroe evolved from more of a dynamic playmaker as a sophomore into a signal-caller that can take you apart with his arm. Similar to Stowers it would’ve been nice to see where the progression has taken Milroe to this point after an off performance at the National Combine in January."

The Miami Hurricanes coaching staff is maintaining patience in signing a QB. Signing classes are made in December and February, not June. The hard work has to be put in ahead of time but getting commitments does not guarantee a player will sign a National Letter of Intent. Decommitments have been too frequent.

Miami has a good group of players on offense for a QB to consider Miami. What happens on the field this fall could determine a QB’s interest in Miami for 2021. To sign an elite QB like Garcia or Milroe the Miami offense has to live up to expectations in 2020.
