The tradition of the Miami football program remaining TE U over the next few years appears strong with the commitments of Elijah Arroyo and Khalil Brantley for 2021.

The Miami football program is continuing to stack tight ends with the commitment of two stars at the position for 2021. Four-star TE Elijah Arroyo is one of the fastest rising players in the 2021 class and the Hurricanes staff is high on three-star TE Khalil Brantley. Miami has one of the best 2021 TE classes.

Miami was named by Andrew Ivins of Inside the U in an article on 247Sports.Com as having one of the five best TE classes in 2021. Florida, Maryland, Tennessee and Texas Tech are the other four schools on Ivins’ list. Arroyo is the ninth-ranked TE for 2021 on the 247 Sports composite rankings and Brantley is 35th.

Rating the five classes in order that Ivins discussed, Maryland is first, followed by Tennessee, Florida, Miami and Texas Tech. The Terapins are the only one of the five schools listed to have four TEs commited for 2021. Maryland tops the list in quantity more than quality.  Tennessee would top the list for quality.

The Volunteers’ two TEs have a national average of the 306.5 best player and 13.5 best TE. The Florida TEs average 331 and 14 and Miami is third and 475.5 and 28. The 247 Sports article did not include schools that have only one TE among the best in the country. Ivins summarized Arroyo and Brantley being committed to Miami.

Elijah Arroyo 2019 highlights

"MIAMIIndependence (Texas) Frisco four-star tight end Elijah Arroyo was one of the biggest movers in the offensive rankings update as his ball skills and ability to make people miss in space is pretty unique given his build. While most schools would just be happy with a tight end like Arroyo, the Hurricanes have another intriguing tight end committed in Miami Northwestern three-star Kahlil Brantley. He too is a dynamic runner with the ball in his hands that should be able to line up at different spots in hopes of creating mismatches for Miami’s new spread offense. Both Arroyo and Brantley are trying to enroll early at UM, which is good for Manny Diaz because he will likely lose current star tight end Brevin Jordan to next year’s NFL Draft."

Without Brevin Jordan in 2021, the Miami football team is expected to return Will Mallory who will be a senior, 2021 redshirt sophomore Larry Hodges and Dominic Mammerelli who will be a true freshman in 2020. Mammerelli could redshirt in 2020. Mallory would be the prohibitive favorite to be the Miami starter at TE in 2021.

Next. Miami might be could be too far from home for Jake Garcia. dark

If he does not have a breakout season in the new Rhett Lashlee offense in 2020, with Jordan likely moving onto the NFL after the 2020 season, expect Mallory to star in the Miami offense as a senior in 2021. With new offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee leading the Miami offense, the TE should be feature prominently.
