Three-star lineman Willie Moise made the decision to move on from the Miami football program on Friday.
Willie Moise a three-star lineman who can play offense and defense announced via a retweet on Friday he has committed to Coastal Carolina. Moise was a longtime Miami football commit. After it not signing with Miami during national signing day in February, Moise college destination has been in limbo since February.
There was speculation this week that Moise could join the Miami football program in August or take a gray shirt and join the Hurricanes in January. Moise made what seems like the right decision for him and decided to act now and sign with the Chanticleers.
The speculation is that Moise did not sign with Miami due to failed academic requirements. Moise would have been ranked in the middle of the 2020 signees with the Miami football program. With Coastal Carolina Moise is by far the highest-ranked signee in 2020. Moise should be able to dominate in the Sun Belt.
Miami last played a Sun Belt team in 2016 when they won 45-10 at the conference’s best team Appalachian State. Coastal Carolina has been an FBS team since 2017 with a 13-23 record. The Chanticleers finished 5-7 in 2019, 2-6 in the Sun Belt. Coastal Carolina earned their only win over a Power Five team against Kansas in 2019.
Moise has the potential to help Coastal Carolina who finished 85th in scoring defense allowing 30.5 points per game and 62nd in total defense giving up 383.6 yards per game. The Miami coaching staff will now be able to focus their attention elsewhere in recruiting without the uncertainty of Moise. Miami has two DTs commited for 2021.
Four-star DT Savion Collins is currently commited to the Miami football program with the expectation he is strong lean to flip to Florida. Three-star DT Allan Haye is regarded as a lock to sign with Miami. The Hurricanes lose senior DT Jon Ford after the 2020 season and junior Nesta Silvera will be eligible for the 2021 NFL Draft.
