Miami Football 2022 QB prospects high on Rhett Lashlee list
Without a quarterback committed for 2021, the offensive coaching staff for the Miami football program is simultaneously recruiting signal-callers in the class of 2022.
Four-star 2022 quarterback Jacurri Brown played well at the Jacksonville Showcase Camp last weekend according to numerous reports. Brown is one of the QBs that new offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee is recruiting the heaviest for the Miami football program in the 2022 class per reports. Brown is interested in multiple schools.
Florida currently leads for Brown with the Gators as the only school listed as warm according to his 247Sports profile. Brown is a high school teammate at Lowndes High School in Valdosta, Georgia, of 2021 defensive end Thomas Davis who is expected to commit to the Miami football program on his birthday August 24.
Miami has offered scholarships to 10 QBs in the Class of 2022. Six Pro-Style QBs have been offered and four dual-threat QBs have been tendered by the Hurricanes. California based QB A.J. Duffy appears to be the most interested. Oregon is the favorite for Duffy with Miami and USC slightly behind.
Brown and several other QBs are worth watching for Miami in the 2022 recruiting cycle. Four-star QB M.J. Morris from Carrollton, Georgia is the 41st ranked player in the Class of 2022, second-ranked dual-threat QB and fifth-ranked player in the Peach State. Morris is being considered by the college football elite.
Zion Turner sophomore highlights
Alabama and Georgia are among his suitors, but Morris does not appear to be leaning towards anyone currently. Lashlee is working hard sending out offers to potential QBs in the 2022 Class in addition to the ones stated above. Lashlee has been in contact with several Miami QB prospects electronically.
The class of 2022 has one of the top QBs in the nation locally. Three-star prospect Zion Turner of St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale is the 11th ranked dual-threat QB and 85th ranked player in Florida in the Class of 2021. Andrew Ivins of Inside the U reported that Morris is one of the top prospects for Georgia.
According to Ivins, Turner visited Miami in January before the moratorium on in-person recruiting began in March due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Turner led St. Thomas Aquinas to 15-0 record in 2019 and the Class 7A State Championship, an impressive feat for a team led by a sophomore QB. Turner acknowledged that.
"“I complement him (running back Anthony Hankerson). He complements me. We bring this offense together…Two sophomores is not a thing you see every night.”"
Braedyn Locke of Rockwell, Texas is a three-star is the 14th ranked Pro-Style QB in 2022 and the 52nd ranked player in Texas in the rising junior class. Locke currently holds offers from Arkansas, Kansas and SMU in addition to Miami. The offer from SMU came from Lashlee when he was the Mustangs’ offensive coordinator.
With close to 18 months before National Signing Day for the Class of 2022, Lashlee will continue to evaluate film until the dead period for recruiting lifts. For now, that has been extended to August 31. Expect Miami to continue to offer more QBs with uncertainty and no commits at QB in the Class of 2021.
