Quarterback D’Eriq King should have a bigger impact on the Miami football program in 2020 than any player in recent memory.

The addition of quarterback D’Eriq King as a graduate transfer from Houston for the 2020 College football season should have a greater impact on the Miami football program than any Hurricane in recent memory. King was recently named by 247Sports as one of “The 20 people who will swing the 2020 college football season.”

D’Eriq King joined the Miami football program earlier this year with a proven track record of accomplishments at Houston. King showed the versatility as an athlete for the Cougars as a wide receiver early in his collegiate career before returning to his natural position of QB in 2017. There are high expectations for King at Miami.

King enters the 2019 season with an FBS record passing and rushing TD in 15 straight games. In 2018 King accounted for 2,982 yards passing, 36 touchdowns and 674 yards rushing and another 14 TDs. With an average of 27.5 points per game accounted for in 2018, King was first in that category.

The addition of Rhett Lashlee as the new Miami offensive coordinator should provide the Hurricanes with an impactful duo in revolutionizing the offense. Lashlee was surprisingly left off the list of the 20 most impactful people who can change the 2020 college football season.

"D’ERIQ KING, QB, MIAMIHow much of a difference does a quarterback make? We are only three seasons removed from Miami taking a No. 2 national ranking deep into November. Any success since has been driven primarily, if not entirely, by the defense. In D’Eriq King, Miami has a dynamic proven quarterback, teaming up with a new offensive coordinator in Rhett Lashlee. King could push Miami back into relevancy. Some seem to be forgetting that in 2018 at Houston, he was easily one of college football’s best quarterbacks."

King was one of only three people, all players, named to the list from the ACC. Clemson wide receiver Joe Ngata and Virginia QB Keytaon Thompson were also on the list. The list does not include obvious choices like QBs Trevor Lawrence of Clemson and Justin Fields of Ohio State because they are certain difference makers.

Next. Miami Hurricanes QB room more mature in 2020. dark

Six coordinators, including four offensive, were named to the list ahead of Lashlee. If Miami has the type of season that is projected, both King and Lashlee should make a similar list if one is published at the end of the 2020 college football season. Big changes are ahead with the Hurricanes this fall.
