The key for the Miami football program to get three-star Quarterback prospect and three-sport athlete Jay Allen interested is to allow him to play baseball and football in Coral Gables.

Three-star 2021 quarterback prospect and three-sport athlete Jay Allen is one of the most intriguing recruits in the upcoming cycle. Allen is currently commited to Florida for baseball and expected to be an early-round 2021 MLB pick as a five-tool outfielder. The Miami football program is intrigued.

Allen also plays point-guard for John Carroll High School in Fort Pierce. An article by Max Olson of The Athlete reported that Miami offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee likes the potential that Allen could bring at QB for the Hurricanes. Miami does not have a commitment at QB in its Class of 2021.

Allen is competing at the Elite 11 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee this week after playing in a baseball tournament in Alabama over the weekend. Allen is the 120th ranked athlete and 200th ranked player in Florida for 2021. Some projections have Allen playing defensive back in college.

There is some speculation that in order to sign Allen a team has to be willing to provide him the chance to play football and baseball in college. Florida currently has commits from two quarterbacks in its 2021 recruiting class. Allen’s high school coach Mickey Groody spoke to Olsen.

"“The big word from everybody is they’re ‘intrigued’ by (the offers)…He’s gotten some offers that are allowing him to play baseball as well. I truly think he’s looking for a place to do both. But since he’s been a kid, it’s been his dream to play UF baseball.I think if something comes along that allows him to do both and fits him well, I could see him making a change.”"

Allen is high on the list for Lashlee and the coaching staff for the Miami football program. With many fans, commits, alums and current Miami football players focusing on Jake Garcia, Allen and four-star Texas commit Jalen Milroe are still on the radar for Lashlee and might better fits for his up-tempo, spread offense.

Getting Miami baseball coach Gino DiMare onboard to recruit Allen in tandem could serve Miami well. Allen is the type of athlete that is special even by standards of a Power Five program. Allen’s idol is Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray. Murray was the ninth overall pick in the 2018 MLB Draft and top pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.
