The recruitment of five-star athlete James Williams is alive for the Miami football program because of co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach Ephraim Banda.

The Miami football program being named a finalist for five-star athlete James Williams is potentially a huge boost to the Hurricanes 2021 recruiting class. Miami is still alive in the recruitment for Williams because of co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach Ephraim Banda.

Manny Diaz has stressed the importance of relationships in the 18 months since he ascended to being the head coach for the Miami football program. Andrew Ivins of Inside the U reported last week that Williams told him he considered Miami in his words “family.”  Williams is a former Miami commit.

After committing to Miami on March 31, 2018, Williams de-commited on May 7, 2019. A player of Williams’ stature de-committing is not unprecedented or unwarranted. He had to be expected to keep his options open, especially with the elite programs in college football. Georgia is the favorite to sign Williams.

The key for Miami having any chance at signing Williams in December or February will be having a season that exceeds expectations. The likelihood is that the Hurricanes are going to have to win 10 games to be in the discussion with the Bulldogs to sign the 10th ranked player in the Class of 2021.

Ivins also reported that Williams will likely take his official visits to Georgia and Miami after his season ends in early December. That would leave a quick turnaround of less than a week from the

Miami does not have a safety committed for 2021. The Hurricanes signed four safeties in the Class of 2021, including Avantae Williams who is the second-ranked safety in the Class per the 247Sports composite.
