The Miami football program was named as one of eight finalists for four-star cornerback Duce Chestnut.

Four-star cornerback Duce Chesnut named the Miami football program as one of his eight finalists. Chestnut is the 327th ranked player, 24th ranked CB, and sixth-ranked player in New Jersey in the Class of 2021. The other seven schools are Kansas, Louisville, Michigan, Michigan State, Mississippi, Rutgers and Syracuse.

The recruitment for Chestnut is being led by special teams coordinator Jonathan Patke and CBs coach Mike Rumph for the Miami football program. The Hurricanes currently have two CBs in the Class of 2021. Tim Burns and Malik Curtis are both three-star players.

Chestnut would be the eighth-highest rated player in the 2021 Miami recruiting class and the second-highest-rated defensive player behind four-star defensive tackle Savion Collins. Chestnut is from Camden High School in Camden, New Jersey which is the same school that produced 2020 Miami signee, linebacker Tirek Austin-Cave.

The scouting report on Chestnut projects him as a multi-year starter at a Power Five school and NFL Free Agent. In his 247Sports profile, there is not a Crystal Ball forecasted for Chesnut nor does he appear to be leaning towards one school more than another. Chestnut had five interceptions and 13 pass breakups in 2019.

Miami would reportedly like to add a third CB to their 2021 Class. Al Blades and D.J. Ivey are entering their junior seasons in 2020 and will have the option to declare for the 2021 NFL Draft. The Hurricanes also have sophomores Te’Cory Crouch and Christian Williams on the roster entering the 2020 season.

Four-Star Isaiah Dunson and three-star Marcus Clarke signed as CBs with Miami in the Class of 2020. Chestnut is 5’11, 180 pounds, a bit below the length that head coach Manny Diaz and Co-defensive coordinator Blake Baker prefer. A commitment from Chesnut would still be a big boost to the Hurricanes 2021 recruiting class.
