Running back

Xavier Jones

had one of the best individual seasons in SMU history in 2019. Jones finished with 1,276 rushing and a school-record 23 TDs breaking Pro Football Hall of Famer Eric Dickerson’s 1981 record of 19. Jones added 20 receptions for 70 yards and another two TDs.

DeeJay Dallas led Miami with 693 yards rushing and eight TDs and added 14 receptions for 140 yards and another two TDs. Miami rushed for 18 TDs as a team in 2019. Jones was five short of the Miami record for rushing TDs in a season with 28 by Willis McGahee’s Heisman Trophy finalist season in 2002.

That record appears safe in the Lashlee led offense. Shane Buechele had the greatest season by an SMU QB in Mustangs history in 2019. Buechele set the program records with 3,929 yards and 34 TD passes. Bernie Kosar set the Miami program record with 3,642 passing yards during Jimmy Johnson’s first season in 1985.

Steve Walsh holds the passing TD record for Miami in a single season with 29 in 1988. King should be able to come close to all of the above numbers in 2020. In 2018 in 11 games, King threw for 2,982 yards and 36 TDs. If King plays in 13 games this season, his 2018 passing yardage average would come out to 3,524 yards.
