Miami football versus Georgia Tech could be 2020 letdown game

Projecting the 2020 Miami football schedule a game they cannot afford a letdown will be November 21 at Georgia Tech.

The toughest stretch on the 2020 Miami football schedule is are four-games beginning October 24 against North Carolina, traveling to Virginia October 31 returning home to host Florida State November 7 and finishing November 14 at Virginia Tech. Miami will have to avoid a letdown the week following at Georgia Tech.

Miami will travel to Atlanta having lost the last two games against Georgia Tech. The Hurricanes loss to the Yellow Jackets in 2019 was inexplicable. Miami gave up special teams and defensive touchdowns and missed three field goals in regulation before losing in overtime. The Hurricanes cannot lose games like that in 2020.

The games against North Carolina, Virginia Tech and Florida State will be the most critical for Miami in 2020. The Tar Heels, Hurricanes and Hokies are expected to be the three teams contending to win the ACC Coastal in 2020. Miami lost to Virginia Tech and North Carolina in 2019 but defeated Florida State.

Georgia Tech finished 3-8 last season, 2-6 in the ACC with the win over Miami being their only one over another ACC Coastal Division opponent. The Yellow Jackets only other ACC victory was over North Carolina State. If Miami is going to seriously challenge to win the ACC Coastal they have to avoid losses to Georgia Tech and Duke.

Miami lost their last trip to Atlanta 27-21 in 2018. The Hurricanes lost three fumbles in that game The previous trip to Bobby Dodd Stadium in 2016 Miami was the team forcing turnovers with fumble returns for touchdowns on back to back possessions take control of the game. The offense has to deliver in Atlanta in 2020.

Even during the 2017 season when Miami won the Coastal, the Hurricanes needed a Michael Badgley field goal with four seconds remaining to defeat Georgia Tech. The Hurricanes cannot look ahead against the Yellow Jackets in 2020. They need to win games they are expected to this season to contend in the ACC Coastal.
