Miami football would be excited to play Notre Dame in 2020
Athletic director Blake James said on Saturday that the Miami football program would be interested in adding Notre Dame to their 2020 schedule.
With college football schedules constantly evolving for the 2020 season the Miami football program would be thrilled to play Notre Dame according to athletic director Blake James in an email to the Miami Herald on Saturday. Miami and Notre Dame last played in 2017 and are scheduled to play again in 2024.
The Big 10 announced Thursday and the Pac 12 followed Friday with announcements that they would be playing exclusively a conference schedule in 2020. Both conferences play nine conference games to the eight that the ACC plays. Numerous reports have stated that the ACC is expected to eliminate non-conference games.
Outgoing ACC Commissioner John Swafford stated earlier this week that the ACC will work with Notre Dame to help the Fighting Irish fill out their schedule with the game they lost when the Big 10 and Pac 12 decided to play only conferences games in 2020. Notre Dame was scheduled to play Wisconsin, USC and Stanford in 2020.
Miami would likely be one of the first teams considered to fill out the schedule for Notre Dame. The Hurricanes lost Michigan State off their schedule. With both programs needing to fill out their schedules and Miami and Notre Dame being one of the most historic rivalries in college football its a perfect match.
ACC football also expected to play conference-only games, sources told @Stadium. Last month, ACC commish John Swofford told @Stadium if Power 5 schools played conference-only schedules that ACC would assist Notre Dame with as many games as it needed

"“We will work with the ACC on creating the best schedules possible for our programs…If the opportunity for a match up with ND is presented, we would be thrilled to have that game added to our 2020 schedule.”"
Miami and Notre Dame would bring in lucrative TV ratings. The Hurricanes and Fighting Irish last played in 2017 at Hard Rock Stadium in a game televised on ABC in prime time. Earlier in the day, ESPN was live from the Hurricanes Coral Gables campus for College Football Game Day with Alex Rodriguez as the guest analyst.

The opportunity to schedule another game between the Notre Dame and Miami football teams would be too good for the ACC to pass up. The logistics would have to be worked out about which team would host the game. Miami and Notre Dame are next scheduled to play in 2024 in South Bend.
