Five-star defensive tackle prospect Leonard Taylor who recently announced his finalists are the Florida and Miami football programs will commit on August 6 as stated in a tweet on Tuesday night.

Five-star defensive tackle Leonard Taylor, one of the top prospects for the Miami football program announced via tweet on Tuesday night he will make his collegiate destination known on August 6. Taylor narrowed his finalists to Florida and Miami earlier this month. Taylor is the 29th ranked player and sixth-ranked DT in 2021.

The sixth-ranked player in Florida, Taylor is part of an exceptionally deep and talented team at Miami Palmetto. Four-star DT Savion Collins is currently commited to Miami from Palmetto but is expected to eventually expected to flip to Florida. Miami also has three-star, DT Allan Haye, from Chaminade-Madonna commited for 2021.

The Miami coaching staff is selling Taylor on the chance to come in and compete to be a starter immediately. Senior starting DT Jon Ford graduates after the 2020 season and junior Nesta Silvera has the option of entering the NFL Draft. Miami will have a trio backups to Ford and Silvera returning for 2021.

Redshirt sophomore Jordan Miller and redshirt freshmen Jared Harrison-Hunte and Jalar Holley are expected to contribute and be part of the rotation in 2020. All three should return for the 2021 season baring a transfer or in Miller’s case being eligible for the NFL Draft. Miller declaring for the draft would be shocking.

Four crystal balls for Taylor on his 247Sports profile project him with an eight in 10 chance of committing to Florida. Taylor stated earlier this summer he wanted to see how Miami performs on the field this fall. That part of his recruitment is now obsolete for Miami and would appear to work against them after finishing 6-7 in 2019.

Next. What a Leonard Taylor commit would mean for Miami football. dark

Many recruiting are choosing to stay close to home with the Coronavirus pandemic that has vastly altered college football. That would work in Miami’s favor. If Taylor chooses Miami he would be by far the best player commited to the Hurricanes for 2021. Wide receiver Romello Brinson currently is the highest-ranked commit at 138.
