James Williams is the 10th ranked player in the country, in the Class of 2021, the top-ranked athlete and top-ranked player in Florida. Originally projected as a safety, Williams is one of the most versatile players in the Class of 2021. Williams is most often compared to former Clemson linebacker Isaiah Simmons.
At 6’5 218 pounds, Williams has the size to play anywhere on defense. Some scouting reports have projected that Williams has the ability to be an edge rusher. Wherever he signs, expect to see Williams at ll three levels defensively. Georgia is currently the leader to sign Williams but Miami was recently named a finalist.
Williams has the body of an LB but the ability to play free safety and be a ball tracker. Expect Williams to also be utilized as a blitzer. The versatility, size and skills that Williams have, are rare. Williams is equally adept against the run. Williams would ideal in the aggressive Manny Diaz defense forcing turnovers.
Williams can track the ball in pass coverage making interceptions and is dangerous at ripping the football from opponents. One of the criticisms in his scouting report is that he needs to develop more toughness as a tackler with his size. Williams is expected to be an immediate starter and eventual first-round draft pick.
