Three-star Miami linebacker commit Deshawn Troutman will enroll early with the Miami football program no matter when the 2020 Florida high school season is played.

Linebacker Deshawn Troutman a three-star linebacker commited to the Miami football program in the Class of 2021 told the Miami Herald published on Tuesday that he intends on enrolling in college early no matter what the outcome of the 2020 high school football season is.

The Florida State High School Athletic Association ruled on Monday that the football season will start on time. Covid-19 hot spots in South Florida, Jacksonville and Orlando could jeopardize those teams’ seasons and their playoff status. Regardless of what happens Troutman will graduate in December.

Troutman is the 985th ranked player, 44th ranked inside LB and 133rd ranked player in Florida in the Class of 2021. Troutman is the only ILB commited to Miami for 2021 and the lowest-ranked of the three LBs commited the Hurricanes upcoming recruiting class. The projected early enrollment will help Troutman’s progress.

Troutman stated enrolling early is his plan even if he has to miss his senior season of football. The future Hurricanes LB also told the Herald that he is for Florida high school football teams beginning practice on July 27 and spoke about the workouts he and his Edgewater High School teammates are participating in.

"“I’m going to graduate in December regardless…If I have to miss my senior football season I’m just going to have to accept it. It ain’t the worst thing in the world. Right now we’re working out by position in groups of six or seven or eight and getting temperature checks every morning. We rarely see each other.I like wearing masks during the whole workout because it helps me breathe in with my nose and out with my mouth like you’re supposed to. You run full speed like that with a mask on all the time and you stay better conditioned.”"

Troutman will join what should be a deep Miami LB corps for the 2021 season. Redshirt senior Zach McCloud will be the only departure after the 2020 season unless someone transfers. Miami signed three-star LBs Tirek Austin-Cave and Corey Flagg in 2020. Tyler Johnson and Ja’Corey Hammett are committed for 2021.

Manny Diaz has made it a point to get signees to enroll early. After only three 2019 signees enrolled in January, 13 Hurricanes from the class of 2020 enrolled in January. This year was more important than ever for the early enrollees to have that time with the new coaching staff. How 2020-21 plays out is in question.
