James Williams Miami football commitment reminiscent of Avantae Williams signing

The commitment of five-star 2021 defensive athlete James Williams to the Miami football program on Tuesday night was reminiscent of the signing of four-star safety Avanatae Williams in February.

Five-star 2021 defensive athlete James Williams was projected to commit to Georgia. Four-star 2020 safety Avantae Williams was expected to sign with Florida. Both players surprised college football recruiting analysts by pledging to the Miami football program. The future for the Hurricanes defense is bright.

Avantae Williams had all 13 crystal balls analyzing his recruitment projecting him to sign with Florida. Williams shocked the college football recruiting analysts when he chose Miami. The relationship that Williams has with the Miami coaching staff was the difference between Williams choosing Miami over Florida.

James Williams equally shocked college football recruiting analysts on Tuesday night when he chose Miami over Georgia. At one point the Miami football program was not in the top three schools that the top 10 recruit was considering for college, Alabama, Clemson and Georgia earlier this year.

Last month Williams announced Miami and Georgia as he finalists with the Bulldogs as the prohibitive favorite. Unlike his future teammate Avantae Williams, James Williams was not up against a deadline to make a decision on his future college choice. Avantae Williams announced his destination on National Signing Day.

James Williams’ commitment on Twitter on Tuesday night came without a prior announcement that he would be declaring his college choice. Most recruits state when they are going to commit to a college football program and then take to their social media outlet of choice with the announcement.

James Williams used a heartfelt Twitter post that paid tribute to his late mother and late legendary Miami safety Sean Taylor to announce his commitment to Miami. All nine projections for James Williams with a confidence score of eight out of 10 anticipated him to commit to Georgia. Miami shocked college football again.

The addition of Avantae Williams vaulted Miami in the 2020 recruiting rankings. The Hurricanes are currently 16th. James Williams commited moved Miami from 12th to 11th in the 2021 National Recruiting rankings with several Miami prospects scheduled to commit in the next five weeks.

Five-star defensive tackle Leonard Taylor will commit August 6, four-star safety Corey Collier August 10 and three-star defensive end Thomas Davis August 24. Miami is favored to receive a commitment from Davis. Taylor is favored to commit to Florida but starting to trend to Miami.

Collier does not have any crystal balls projecting which school he will commit to. After a 6-7 2019 season, head coach Manny Diaz and his staff have done an outstanding job securing talent. The future should be bright on the Greentree Practice Fields and on gameday at Hard Rock Stadium.
