Three-star wide receiver Brashard Smith who is one of the five elite recruits from Miami Palmetto high school announced his commitment to the Miami football program on Sunday night.

The commitment from three-star wide receiver Brashard Smith to the Miami football program on Sunday night gives the Hurricanes two of the elite five prospects from Miami Palmetto high school in the 2021 recruiting class. Four-star defensive tackle Savion Collins commited to the Hurricanes in September 2018.

Smith is the third WR commited to Miami for 2021. Four-star wideouts Romello Brinson from Miami Northwestern and Jacolby George from Plantation in Fort Lauderdale commit to the Hurricanes in June. Smith had 36 receptions for 628 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns receptions in 2019.

Smith who was previously commited to Florida re-opened his commitment and eventually flipped to the Miami football program largely because of the hiring of new offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee who is bringing his up-tempo spread to Coral Gables and new WR coach Rob Likens.

Lashlee and Likens will share credit for the commitment from Smith. At 5’8.5, 190 pounds Smith seems destined to play in the slot. Smith has been timed running a 4.4-second 40-yard dash. Smith is a versatile player who is electric in the open field. He has spent time as a running back and returning kicks.

The 247 Sports profile of Smith lauds his ability to break tackles and the potential he has to score every time he touches the ball. Lashlee, Likens and RB coach Eric Hickson who is entering his second season on the Miami staff are building an elite and dangerous group of skill position players on the Miami offense for the future.

The commitment from Smith to the Hurricanes 2021 recruiting class moves the Hurricanes up one spot from 11th to 10th passing Florida. It makes it doubly sweet to pass the Gators with one of their de-commits. Miami can now turn their attention to the other three elite recruits at Palmetto,

Five-star DT Leonard Taylor has trended towards Florida throughout most of his recruitment. As of late, several recruiting analysts have reported that Taylor is trending towards Miami more recently. Taylor will announce his decision on August 6. Four-star safety Corey Collier is announcing his collegiate destination on August 10.

Williams makes Miami only Florida school with 5-star commit. dark. Next

Five-star Palmetto cornerback Jason Marshall is going to be the toughest to convince to sign with Miami. Marshall is currently trending to Florida with Alabama the second favorite. If the Hurricanes can keep Collins from flipping to the Gators and receive a commitment from Taylor the 2021 class will be locked in the top 10.
