The Miami football program moved back into the top 10 recruiting classes for 2021 passing Florida with the commitment of three-star wide receiver Brashard Smith on Sunday.

The commitment from three-star wide receiver Brashard Smith on Sunday moved the 2021 recruiting class for the Miami football program past Florida into 10th nationally. The commitment from Smith and passing the Gators was doubly sweet as the nation’s 57th ranked WR is a former Florida commit.

Smith provided Miami with 10.2 recruiting points that give the Hurricanes 242.58 points in the 2021 recruiting cycle allowing them to pass Florida who has 241.86. Miami is less than six points behind Clemson for ninth place overall and second in the ACC. North Carolina is seventh nationally and tops the ACC recruiting classes.

Manny Diaz and the Miami football staff have had a productive summer. Smith is the third WR the Hurricanes have received a commitment from since June. Four-star WRs Romello Brinson and Jacolby George commited to Miami last month. Next up for Miami could be five-star defensive tackle Leonard Taylor.

Taylor has been trending towards Florida throughout his recruitment, but more recently Miami has made a big push towards signing the 27th ranked player in the nation. Taylor will make his announcement on August 6. Four-star safety Corey Collier who plays with Taylor at Miami Palmetto will announce August 10.

Miami also received a commitment from three-star defensive end Thomas Davis on Monday. Davis initially set a date of August 24, his birthday when he was going to make his college choice known. Davis is the 21st commit to the Hurricanes 2021 recruiting class. Davis is the second DE committed to Miami.

Four-star DE Jabari Ishmael pledged to the Hurricanes earlier this month. Four scholarships remain for Miami in the Class of 2021. Taylor would give the Hurricanes their second five-star commit for 2021 after athlete James Williams who can play safety or linebacker committed last week.

Taylor and Williams would give Miami two five-star recruits in the same recruiting class for the first time since 2008. A commitment from Taylor next month would push Miami past North Carolina into seventh on top of the ACC recruiting classes. If Collier joins Taylor, the Hurricanes would rise all the way to third.
