Three-star Defensive end Thomas Davis is the second commit to the Miami football program in less than 24 hours. The Hurricanes received a commitment from three-star wide receiver Brashard Smith on Sunday.

The Miami football program continued their hot streak on the recruiting trail for 2021 with the commitment of three-star defensive end Thomas Davis on Monday. Davis is the second Hurricanes commit in less than 24 hours. Three-star wide receiver Brashard Smith committed on Sunday.

Davis is the 867th ranked player nationally, the 50th weakside DE and 76th ranked player in Georgia. Davis has the versatility to play outside linebacker. As a junior, Davis had a productive season for Lowndes High School in Valdosta, Georgia with 47 tackles, 16 1/2 tackles for loss, 11.5 sacks and one fumble recovery.

Davis becomes the second out of 21 commits to Miami in the 2021 class outside of Florida and just the fourth outside of Dade or Broward Counties. Two of the other four, four-star TE Elijah Arroyo from Frisco, Texas and three-star LB Deshawn Troutman from Orlando spent significant parts of their lives in South Florida.

A former Mississippi State commit, Davis chose Miami over Florida State and South Carolina. Smith was previously commited to Florida. Miami has re-commits from Running Back Thad Franklin, wide receivers Romello Brinson and Jacolby George and athlete James Williams after they previously de-commited from the Hurricanes.

Davis is the second commit to Miami for 2021 at DE. Four-star Jabari Ishmael commited to the Hurricanes last month. At 6’1, 235 pounds, Davis brings exceptional speed off the edge with a time of 4.71 seconds in the 40-yard dash. With Davis and Ishmael commited to Miami, the Hurricanes are finished at edge rusher.

Next up is likely five-star defensive tackle Leonard Taylor. Taylor received his first crystal ball towards Miami for 2021. The Hurricanes currently hold the 10th ranked class nationally for 2021. A commitment from Taylor would push Miami into seventh and pass ACC rivals Clemson and North Carolina for the top class in the conference.

Manny Diaz and his staff have had an exceptional spring and summer on the recruiting trail coming off a 6-7 season. A commitment from Taylor and potentially he and Smith’s teammate at Palmetto, safety Corey Collier would potentially push Miami into the top five classes in the country.
