The Miami football program is continuing to recruit four-star USC quarterback commit Jake Garcia. Hurricanes head coach Manny Diaz spoke to Garcia following the commit of five-star athlete James Williams last week.

The 2021 Miami recruiting class moved into the top 10 nationally on Sunday with the commit of three-star wide receiver Brashard Smith. Five-star athlete James Williams became the jewel of Miami’s class following his commit last week. Manny Diaz spoke to five-star QB Jake Garcia following Williams’ commitment.

Andrew Ivins of Inside the U reported on Wednesday about the conversation between Garcia and Diaz. Garcia has continued to be firm in his commitment to USC. Diaz and the Miami coaching staff continues to work hard to flip Garcia. Ivins mentioned that Diaz sent a photo of Garcia and Williams to the top signal-caller.

It is unknown if Garcia will reopen his recruitment. If he does, Miami would be the favorite to receive a commitment from the 14th ranked QB for 2021. USC also has a commitment from four-star QB Miller Moss who is the 13th ranked QB in the Class of 2021. Garcia stated earlier this year he knew the Trojans wanted two QBs for 2021.

Miami is currently without a QB commit for 2021. It is the one position holding the Hurricanes class back from truly being impactful. Four-star QB Tyler VanDyke signed with Miami in 2020. The Hurricanes will lose graduate transfer QB, D’Eriq King, following the 2020 season. The QB room for Miami in 2021 is open for speculation.

Redshirt juniors Tate Martell and N’Kosi Perry have the option of leaving for the NFL following the 2020 season or could play in college elsewhere as a graduate transfer. Miami will also have Peyton Matocha entering his redshirt sophomore season in 2021. If all four return the QB depth for Miami would be sufficient.

Next. Miami makes obvious official naming D'Eriq King starting QB. dark

Unless Miami signs another graduate transfer QB for the 2021 season, the competition to the Hurricanes top signal-caller in 2021 should be wide open. With 19 career starts Perry would be the favorite to become the starting QB in 2021. Diaz and his staff have to continue to improve the talent on the roster at QB.
