North Carolina Quarterback Sam Howell
In the second start of his college career, North Carolina quarterback Sam Howell led North Carolina to a 17-3 lead at the end of the first quarter than had to rally the Tar Heels late in a wild 28-25 victory over Miami in Chapel Hill.
It was the second consecutive week that Howell led North Carolina on a game-winning drive.
Howell outdueled Miami redshirt freshman QB Jarren Williams completing 16 passes in 24 attempts for 274 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions.
Howell also caught a pass for 18 yards. North Carolina scored the game-winning TD on a Howell to Dazz Newsome 10-yard TD pass with 1:01 remaining in the game. Howell finished his true freshman season completing 61.4 percent of his passes for 3,641 yards, 38 TDs and seven interceptions.
The Miami football team gets Howell and North Carolina at Hard Rock Stadium in 2020. The game was expected to be one of the most critical games in the battle to win the ACC Coastal in 2020.
The divisions have been eliminated in the ACC for the 2020 season. The top two teams in the ACC overall will qualify for the ACC Championship game in Charlotte.
What had been seven teams battling for one spot in the Coastal, now likely becomes the 14 ACC teams besides Clemson battling for the other ACC Championship game berth.
