In a tweet posted on Thursday evening by Senior Bowl executive director Jim Nagy, several scouts have told him that the best position for Miami Hurricanes quarterback D’Eriq King will be slot WR.

Miami Hurricanes quarterback D’Eriq King has proven to be a versatile player during his collegiate career with Houston before transferring in January. The 5’9 King might have to make a position switch to slot wide receiver to have an NFL future. King has often been compared to NFL QBs Russell Wilson and Kyler Murray.

King has thrown for 4,925 yards, 50 touchdowns and 10 interceptions, run for 1,421 yards and 28 TDs, has 59 receptions for 504 yards and five TDs has returned 11 kickoffs for 260 yards and a TD and six punts for 29 yards. The versatility that King can provide to an NFL roster will help him tremendously during training camp in 2021.

King’s height will be questioned throughout the 2020 college football season, whatever postseason All-Star game he participates in and during the 2021 NFL combine. Other college QBs who could be good comparisons for King are Taysom Hill who played at BYU and Jalen Hurts who was just drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles.

Hill has done just about everything for the New Orleans Saints since entering the NFL. He also once torched a Manny Diaz run Texas defense for 259 yards rushing and three TDs. That cost Diaz his job in Austin set in motion what led him to become the head coach for the Hurricanes.

Hill has played QB, lined up in the backfield as a Wildcat QB, played WR and returned and covered kicks. Hurts only played QB at Alabama and Oklahoma from 2016-2019 but the Eagles are projected to use him in a lot of versatile ways backing up Carson Wentz. King could have a similar NFL future.

dark. Next. Miami finally names D'Eriq King starting QB

King transferred to Miami for the 2020 season to face better competition than he did in the AAC with Houston. The addition of Clemson to the Miami schedule for 2020 will provide King with a showcase game to prove he is an NFL caliber QB. Next season could determine where and at what position King is drafted.
