Miami Hurricanes defensive end Quincy Roche has been named a first-team All-American by Pro Football Focus. The team includes players who have had their seasons canceled.

Miami Hurricanes graduate defensive end Quincy Roche has been graded as the top returning edge rusher in college football by Pro Football Focus. On Wednesday, Roche was rewarded by being named as a preseason All-American by PFF. The PFF preseason All-American team includes players whose seasons have been canceled.

Roche transferred to Miami during the 2020 offseason shortly after the Hurricanes added graduate transfer quarterback D’Eriq King from Houston. Roche had 19 tackles for loss and 12 sacks for the Owls in 2020. Roche was among the elite edge rushers in college football in 2019 as graded by PFF.

Roche had the second-highest grade among edge rushers in college football in 2019 next to Heisman Trophy finalist Chase Young of Ohio State. Roche will team with former top-ranked signee Jaelan Phillips to give Miami one of the top pass-rushing tandems in college football in 2020.

Roche will get after the QB multiple times in most games as PFF explains in their profile of the Hurricanes top edge rusher. Roche and King join the Miami football program with the motivation to prove they can equal the production they had in the American Athletic Conference. PFF expects Roche to have an outstanding 2020.

"EDGE DEFENDERFIRST TEAM: QUINCY ROCHE, MIAMI (FL)Roche was a dominant force for Temple this past season, producing a 93.3 pass-rush grade that ranked second to only Chase Young. He had five games last year in which he recorded more than seven pressures, something only one other FBS edge rusher accomplished (only one had four games, too)."

Roche had a breakout season in 2019 and particularly closed the season strong. In the final four regular-season games Roche recorded 14 TFLs and 10 sacks against South Florida, Tulane, Cincinnati and Connecticut. Roche was unblockable against the Green Wave with six TFLs and three sacks.

Roche could have a few breakout games like that for Miami in 2020. The Hurricanes had nine sacks against Florida State in 2019 with four of those by former Miami DE Greg Rousseau. Rousseau nearly reached the Miami single-season record of 17 sacks with 15.5 last. Roche might have a chance at the record.
