Five Miami Hurricanes with breakout performances in second scrimmage
Freshman wide receiver Xavier Restrepo
Xavier Restrepo was the third highest-rated out of four WRs that signed with the Miami Hurricanes in the class of 2020.
Through the first two scrimmages, Restrepo has made the greatest impact of the freshman WRs with seven receptions for 133 yards and a touchdown and a 70-yard rushing TD last weekend.
Keyshawn Smith who was also a three-star signee at WR also contributed with three receptions for 53 yards and a touchdown. Daz Worsham was also a three-star signee at WR, Michael Redding III was the only four-star WR in 2020. Restrepo had five receptions for 79 yards and a TD on Saturday.
Restrepo will likely contribute somehow to special teams. In high school, Restrepo played offense, defense and was a dangerous return man for Deerfield Beach. As a kick-returner, Restrepo averaged 35.4 yards with one TD and added an 8.1 yard average on punt returns. Both of those positions are open for Miami in 2020.
K.J. Osborn finished fourth in FBS in 2019 averaging 19.6 yards per punt return. Excelling on special teams is often how young players receiving playing time initially. Restrepo is likely to contribute some as a return and on the coverage teams. He has a bright future at Miami with the potential to exceed his recruiting ranking.
