Freshman safety Brian Balom

Brian Balom was the lowest ranked of the four safeties the Miami Hurricanes signed in 2020 but made the biggest impact in the scrimmage on Saturday night.

Balom finished with seven tackles, an interception and a forced fumble. Balom was part of a Miami defense that was more assertive in the second scrimmage.

The loss of freshman Avantae Williams who was the highest ranked signed player for Miami in 2020 has created an opportunity for the other three freshmen safeties for Miami in 2020.

Balom is competing with Keshawn Washington and Jalen Harrell to be the fourth safety in the Hurricanes rotation.

Balom is feeling confident after his strong performance on Saturday. As with the other freshman mentioned, Balom could have an opportunity on special teams.

Balom and Washington were four-star signees. Harell was graded at four-stars. Senior Amari Carter, redshirt junior Bubba Bolden and junior Gurvan Hall are projected to be the first three safeties for Miami in 2020.
