Since joining the Miami football team freshman defensive lineman Quentin Williams had added over 25 pounds. Williams adds key depth and versatility upfront.

Freshman defensive lineman Quentin Williams is one of a handful for the Miami football team in the competition to be the fourth or fifth edge rusher in the rotation in 2020. The departure of redshirt sophomore Greg Rousseau opened up a spot or two in the rotation this fall. Williams will provide depth.

According to his 247Sports recruiting profile, Williams was 6’3, 234 pounds out of Mallard Creek High School in Charlotte, North Carolina. Since working with strength and conditioning coordinator David Feeley, Williams has bulked up to 260 pounds. The 2020 season will likely be one to learn for Williams.

If 2020 fall sports athletes had not been granted an extra year of eligibility by the NCAA, Williams would have been a redshirt candidate. Now players like Williams will be able to compete in practice and if they make an impact will be able to be granted an opportunity to play without having to potentially burn a redshirt season.

Redshirt freshman Cameron Williams and true freshman Chantz Williams are likely to emerge as the fourth and fifth edge rushers for Miami in 2020. Quentin Williams and classmate Elijah Roberts will provide Miami with depth and possibly versatility up front. Defensive line coach Todd Stroud discussed the freshmen.

"“Then a couple of true freshmen in here, they haven’t shied away. So we have a good problem right now. Elijah Roberts, Quentin Williams – we’ll make a decision over the next few weeks.”"

The 2021 season will likely have multiple opportunities on the Miami defensive line. In spite of everyone on the 2020 roster having the option of returning in 2021, graduate transfer defensive end Quincy Roche is likely to leave for the NFL Draft. Redshirt junior Jaelan Phillips will likely consider the NFL Draft with a strong 2020.

Redshirt freshman Jahfari Harvey would lead the returning edge rushers for Miami in 2021 under the scenario that Roche and Phillips enter the NFL Draft. That would provide Quentin Williams and the other 2020 Miami freshmen defensive linemen with a chance to compete for playing time in 2021.
