Miami Hurricanes quarterback D’Eriq King has been ranked the 45th best player in college football by ESPN.

The addition of quarterback D’Eriq King is a huge upgrade for the Miami Hurricanes offense. With King working with new offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee and Miami running the Power, up-tempo spread, the Hurricanes offense is expected to be greatly improved in 2020. King will be one of college football’s most exciting players.

King was one of the most versatile players in college football during his tenure with Houston. The former Cougar brings a dimension to Miami that has not been seen before at QB. Miami has not had a QB with the skills to change a game with his arm and feet to the level that King can. Lashlee should have fun game planning with King.

In addition to his abilities on the field, King has brought a new maturity to the Miami Hurricanes with his leadership and is like having a coach on the field. The ability for King to connect with his teammates and work with them to correct mistakes will help the Hurricanes overall in 2020.

King was ranked among the top 50 that included players who have opted out for the 2020 season including Miami defensive end Greg Rousseau and players from conferences like the Big 10 and Pac 12 who are not playing this fall. Gaining the accolade from ESPN shows the respect they have for King’s ability.

"45. D’Eriq King, QB, Miami, Senior, Last year’s ranking: 40, Status: Playing“King is one of the most dynamic players in college football. In 34 games at Houston, he caught 59 passes for 1,421 yards and three touchdowns, ran for 1,925 and 31 TDs and threw for 4,925 and 50 TDs. He even returned a kickoff 99 yards for a score as a freshman.New Miami offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee will have plenty of options with King under center.”"

King is the 10th ranked QB, eighth-ranked player in the ACC and 25th among players who will compete during the 2020 fall football season. Rousseau ranked 12th on the list. In the four seasons since Manny Diaz has been at Miami, the Hurricanes defense has been the strength of the team.

In 2020 with King at QB, the Miami Hurricanes should be far more balanced. King will lead an offense that should be far more explosive and less conservative. Lashlee and King have proven the willingness to throw the ball deep. With the two working together in 2020 Miami should see an increase in big pass plays.
